The environmental services business of the Spanish group FCC closed the first half of 2016 with lower revenues but improved earnings before interest and taxes (Ebit). The first-half turnover of the environment division reached €1.37bn, the services and construction corporation announced on 29 July in Madrid. Ebit stood at €112.8m for the first six months, 6 per cent higher than in the first half of 2015.

FCC said the lower turnover stemmed from its British operations, due to reduced revenue following the completion of construction work for a new waste incineration facility in Buckinghamshire and the depreciation of the pound sterling, which weakened the company's turnover in euros.

In Spain, half-year revenues reportedly held steady from the same period a year ago. In central and eastern Europe, where FCC is active through its Austrian subsidiary A.S.A. Abfallservice AG (FCC Environment CEE), the environmental activities marked an increase in revenues of 3 per cent.
