German waste plastics market records slow activity in August
The summer holidays made for a quiet month of August, according to companies doing business in the German waste plastics sector. Insiders often reported that a few plastics converters were holding stoppages and recyclers had scaled back production. The latest reductions in primary plastics prices have yet to have an impact on secondary plastics prices or, if they had, affected only certain sectors.
Recyclers making high-quality film regranulate that compete directly with primary plastics for customers' orders are feeling particularly strong pressure. The first price cuts have emerged at times for these grades, albeit in the region of €20 per tonne. Regrind prices did not alter at all compared with July.
