EP rapporteur aims to retain 85 per cent collection target in WEEE Directive

19.08.2011 −

German conservative MEP Karl-Heinz Florenz has called for a Europe-wide minimum collection target of 85 per cent of waste electronic and electrical equipment (WEEE) arisings after 2016, according to the draft report prepared by the European Parliament's rapporteur for the upcoming second reading of WEEE Directive's recast proposal. The European Parliament's Environment Committee is set to start discussing the report in September.

If Mr Florenz' proposals are confirmed, the Parliament's and the EU member states' positions on a number of key aspects will continue to diverge. Besides the collection target, they include the Directive's scope and national producer registers.
