German waste management company Remondis plans to continue its expansion in Eastern Europe through the establishment of a new subsidiary in the Greater Moscow area. Remondis will hold a 51 per cent stake in OOO Remondis Naro-Fominsk. The remaining equity is to be held by partner Nizit, which was established to pursue infrastructure projects in the Naro-Fromisk district and used to be entirely municipally-owned. As part of the joint venture, the municipal services company is initially to take over waste management for the up to 400,000 residents of the district, according to Remondis. The German concern would invest in vehicles and containers and introduce source-separated waste collections for the first time. Further investments were planned in a waste sorting plant and a composting facility if this was economically viable, said the Remondis statement. From the new site south-west of the Russian capital, the waste management concern is also seeking opportunities to take over waste management operations in other districts around Moscow.
