AEB Amsterdam's sale to AVR must undergo more detailed review

The Dutch Authority for Consumers & Markets (ACM) has competition concerns regarding the planned sale of Amsterdam's waste-to-energy plant operator Afval Energie Bedrijf (AEB) to competitor AVR Afvalverwerking Rotterdam. At the end of its phase I review, the authority concluded that further investigations were needed.

"The initial investigation revealed that the acquisition could lead to higher prices for waste processing, among other effects," the authority announced last week. A follow-up probe would focus on the impact of the proposed transaction on the market for the treatment of household waste, industrial waste and low-level hazardous waste, the authority said....
