Austrian technology group Andritz has taken over Dutch firm ATN Engineering, a supplier of recycling technology for end-of-life refrigerators and freezers. Andritz says this acquisition will add ATN’s state-of-the-art de-gasification and de-oiling systems to its portfolio.
The acquired company has a "unique drill head system, which enables the safe and efficient removal of hazardous oil and gas from end-of-life refrigerators", according to a press release. ATN says its systems can de-gas and drain oil from up to 200 refrigerators an hour. The firm, which is based in Stadskanaal, close to the German border, has reportedly delivered more than 200 de-gasification systems worldwide. ATN also supplies feeding logistics and equipment for the recycling of industrial coolers, air conditioning equipment and heat pumps, according to Andritz.
Thomas Gemeiner, head of the recycling division at Andritz, says this takeover represents "another significant step forward" for the group’s recycling offering. "By integrating ATN Engineering’s expertise and proprietary technology, we now cover all critical process steps in refrigerator recycling from a single source,” he added. In addition to refrigerator recycling, Andritz is focusing on "key growth areas" in the recycling sector, such as e-scrap recycling, battery recycling, and waste-to-energy (wte) systems.
