Associations call on EU legislators to ensure EPR schemes for textiles are fair and effective

Against the backdrop of the on-going trilogue negotiations for the targeted revision of Waste Framework Directive (WFD), the European umbrella organisations of the recycling and waste management industry, FEAD and EuRIC Textiles, together with the sporting goods retailer Decathlon, are calling for effective and fair extended producer responsibility (EPR) systems for textiles.

In a detailed six-point list of policy recommendations put forward at the end of November, FEAD, EuRIC and Decathlon emphasise the need for a swift agreement on the legislation. With the obligation to separately collect waste textiles expected to "exponentially" increase the tonnages that must be managed after it enters into force in January 2025, negotiations should be accelerated, they said....
