B&W awarded contract for CCS study at wte plant in Sweden

Babcock & Wilcox (B&W) will conduct a full-scale feasibility study for a carbon capture system at a waste to energy plant in Västerås, Sweden, under a contract awarded by plant operator Mälarenergi AB. The municipally-owned utility company is considering the use of B&W's SolveBright carbon dioxide (CO2) capture technology. Mälarenergi wants to capture 400,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually and to achieve carbon neutrality by 2035, the US combustion technology specialist said.

Block 6 of Mälarenergi’s combined heat and power (CHP) plant processes primarily municipal waste, but it can also be operated using biofuel. The unit supplies around 50 per cent of Västerås’ district heating. The plant's other operational blocks are fuelled with waste wood and other biofuels....
