Carbios and the Turkish company Sasa have signed a letter of intent regarding the potential acquisition by Sasa of a licence for Carbios' PET biorecycling technology. A licensing agreement would cover the construction and operation of an enzymatic depolymerisation plant in Adana, in southern Turkey, where prepared PET would be recycled. The plant under discussion would have a capacity of 100,000 tonnes per year, Carbios said in a Thursday announcement.
According to the French biorecycling company, its technology can be used to produce polyester pellets, fibres and textile waste from a variety of plastic waste materials, including polyester textile waste. The installation of Carbios' technology would enable Sasa to diversify its offering and meet the growing demand for sustainable materials in the textile industry, primarily in the European market, according to the announcement.
Carbios signed a similar letter of intent with the Chinese company Zhink Group at the end of June. The licence agreement being considered by Zhink would cover the use of Carbios' technology at a plant with an annual processing capacity of 50,000 tonnes of prepared PET waste. Carbios also concluded agreements with the European companies Tomra Textiles and Nouvelles Fibres Textiles at the end of June and end of July, respectively, covering the future supply of textile waste to the biorecycling plant Carbios is itself building in Longlaville, France.
