The French company Carbios is moving ahead with plans to develop a biorecycling plant for PET waste together with the Chinese company Wankai New Materials. The companies have entered a definitive agreement establishing a strategic partnership for the large-scale deployment of Carbios' enzymatic depolymerisation technology in Asia, according to a joint press release issued on Tuesday.
The first step of that collaboration is to be a plant in China with a processing capacity of 50,000 tonnes a year of PET waste. The Chinese PET producer Wankai is to be majority shareholder with a 70 per cent stake in the joint venture and Carbios is to own 30 per cent.
