Cewep and FEAD reject call for mixed municipal waste sorting mandate

The Confederation of European Waste-to-Energy Plants (Cewep) rejects creating a new obligation to sort waste. In its response to a study published by the environmental NGOs Reloop and Zero Waste Europe, the industry association questioned the effectiveness of such measures as a supplement to existing source separation. The European Waste Management Association FEAD went a step further in its comments, calling the focus on sorting mixed waste after collection "a dangerous message" that had the potential to undermine years of awareness raising and investment in the area of source separation....
