Consultant: Plastic recycling "on the scale of the petrochemical industry" needed by 2040

Nextek CEO Edward Kosior presents opportunities and challenges for plastics recycling at the Coperion's "Recycling Days"

Global plastics production remains high.  In a business-as-usual scenario, worldwide output could reach around 400 million tpa by 2040 and account for around 20 per cent of global crude oil consumption. Edward Kosior, CEO of the consulting firm Nextek, told attendees of the "Recycling Days" event hosted by machine builders Coperion und Herbold Meckesheim in November. Speaking at Coperion’s newly opened Recycling Innovation Center in Weingarten, near Ravensburg, Germany, Mr Kosior gave a presentation on the "state of play" in the market, outlining what he sees as the key challenges and opportunities in the plastics recycling industry.
