Twelve major food and consumer goods companies have indicated they would have combined annual demand in Europe for at least 800,000 tonnes of chemically recycled plastics for packaging applications by 2030. These volumes would be needed in addition to mechanically recycled plastics, the companies wrote in a letter of intent addressed to suppliers, authorities and investors in mid-October. The letter was signed by Amcor, Barilla, Colgate Palmolive, Danone, Ferrero, Haleon, Henkel, Mars Incorporated, McCain Foods, Mondelēz International, PepsiCo and Unilever. The companies and brand owners belong to the “Coalition of Action on Plastic Waste” of the international umbrella association Consumer Goods Forum (CGF).
