Danpower, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the utility company Enercity, has acquired two waste-to-energy (wte) plants in Germany from Steag group’s Iqony GmbH. The wte plants are located in Lauta in the state of Saxony and Rüdersdorf in Brandenburg. According to Enercity, all of the approximately 100 employees working at the facilities will be taken on by the new owner.
Danpower's plans for the waste treatment facilities include capturing a large share of the waste heat generated during electricity production to feed into its nearby district heating networks. It says heat from these plants could supply up to 25,000 households....
