The German extended producer responsibility organisation Green Dot Group (Der Grüne Punkt) is supplying pyrolysis oil made from post-consumer plastic packaging to Shell Chemicals Europe. The Shell group’s petrochemical subsidiary will process this oil at its "Market Development Upgrader Unit (MDU)", which is currently under construction at the Shell Chemicals Park in Moerdijk in the Netherlands.
Shell’s pyrolysis oil upgrader is to convert pyrolysis oil made from plastic waste that is not suitable for mechanical recycling and would otherwise be incinerated. The upgrading plant will likely commence operations before the year’s end and have an annual capacity of 50,000 tonnes.
