Tissue producer Essity will officially open its new £30m+ state-of-the-art recycled paper facility at its largest UK manufacturing site in Prudhoe, Northumberland, on 9 April 2026.
The company reports that the new facility will raise its production capacity for recycled fibre to over 100,000 tonnes per year, "further strengthening its leadership in sustainable tissue manufacturing".
This major investment in British manufacturing "reinforces Essity’s long-term commitment to sustainability, circularity and innovation, while enhancing the capability and resilience of its UK operations", according to the company.
The new facility will enable Essity to convert lower-grade recovered paper and board into recycled pulp, enhance the company's ability to segregate plastic and metal contaminants, reduce waste sent to landfill, and improve energy efficiency.
