EuRIC criticises proposed notification requirements for textile waste

The umbrella association representing the European recycling industry, EuRIC, has taken a clear position against a proposal to subject cross-border shipments of textile waste to the control procedures of the Basel Convention. This proposal was officially presented to the EU Environment Council in late April after the idea was initially floated in March by Denmark, Sweden and France. The three countries support an amendment which would make textile textile waste subject subject to the prior notification and consent procedure, much in the same way that waste plastics and e-waste are.
