EuRIC: ramp up, don't water down ELVR plastic recycling targets

The European Recycling Industries’ Confederation (EuRIC) is calling on EU lawmakers to be more ambitious regarding the timeline for recycled content targets for plastic car components. "In light of the ongoing discussions on the End-of-Life Vehicles Regulation (ELVR), EuRIC calls on the legislator to maintain a high level of ambition and bring forward recycled content targets for plastics in vehicles," the umbrella organisation said in a statement issued last Thursday.

Article 6 of the proposed Regulation would require that any vehicles type approved six years after the legislation enters into force contain at least 25 per cent recycled plastic from post-consumer waste. Of that recycled content, at least a quarter must be "closed loop" recycled plastic, that is, material originating from ELVs of the respective vehicle type....
