EuRIC: "strong" support for EU CRM target from recycling

European recycling industry umbrella group EuRIC described the Commission proposal for a Regulation on Critical Raw Materials (CRMs) published last week as "a step in right direction towards reducing reliance on CRMs from outside the EU and enhancing EU supply chain resiliency and security." Specifically, EuRIC Secretary General Emmanuel Katrakis said, "European recyclers strongly support the 15 per cent target of strategic raw materials coming from EU recycling."

Euric has long backed the use of recycled content targets for end-products as a means of driving demand for secondary raw materials. Mr Katrakis highlighted the Commission's inclusion of a recycled content target for permanent magnets in the CRM proposal, but said the requirement needed to be extended to other end-products using critical raw materials.
