A sharp increase in PET imports is jeopardising the competitiveness of the EU industry and its goal of improving the circular economy of plastics. The association Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE) expects policymakers to ensure a level playing field for recyclers in Europe and businesses in third countries.
The EU Commission recently launched an anti-dumping investigation into certain imports of cheap PET from China. According to PRE, the EU's PET imports doubled between 2021 and 2022, reaching 1.9m tonnes, with India, China and Turkey among the largest suppliers in terms of volume and value, followed by Indonesia, Egypt and Vietnam....
