Paolo Campanella has been appointed as the new secretary general of the European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services (FEAD). A technical officer for the organisation since the start of 2022, Mr Campanella succeeds Valérie Plainemaison, who left the industry association at the end of last year.
The new secretary general comes with a background in environmental engineering, having completed bachelor's degree in this field at the University of Padova, Italy. His subsequent masters' degree was in the area of soil protection. He followed his studies with a decade of work experience in the environmental and waste sectors and still acts as a technical consultant for the Province of Bari where he sits on a panel evaluating and approving waste management projects.
The waste management umbrella association underlined Mr Campanella's profound understanding of FEAD’s mission and a keen insight into the intricacies of the organisation's operation.
FEAD represents private sector companies in the waste management industry at the European level. The members of its constituent organisations, national waste management associations in 18 European countries, have a market share of around 60 per cent of the household waste market and handle around 75 per cent of the industrial and commercial waste in Europe, according to the organisation.
