FEAD celebrated 40-year anniversary

FEAD, the European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services, was founded 40 years ago by three national waste management associations. The umbrella organisation celebrated this anniversary at its conference, which took place during the IFAT trade fair in Munich. Peter Kurth, president of FEAD and its German member association BDE, pointed out that IFAT has now become larger than the Hannover Messe industrial trade fair, which was taking place simultaneously in 2022. This shows that the circular economy is the economy of the future, according to Mr Kurth.

In a pre-recorded video message, EU Environment Commissioner Virginijus Sinkevičius congratulated the European associa-tion on its anniversary. He described the transition to a circular economy as an opportunity that must not be missed and one of the main pillars of the European Green Deal. The EU official pointed to the Commission’s Circular Economy Package presented in late March, with its measures on product policy, and gave a preview of other planned measures. These include the revi-sions of the Packaging and End-of-Life Vehicle (ELV) Directives and the planned framework for compostable, biodegradable and bio-based plastics....
