French recycling industry association Federec has issued "alerts" in response to the slump in demand for recycled plastics. The organisation has even graver concerns regarding the unexpected drop in the amount of recycled raw materials being incorporated in new products. In a statement released last week, Federec Plastiques, the federation's plastics division, says the outlook for the recycled plastics market in the second half of the year is bleak, due in part to the growing preference by product owners for cheaper primary plastics, particularly for packaging applications.
The first half of 2023 has seen a significant and widespread slump in demand for recycled plastics across all sectors, developments that have been reported by EUWID. While it was true that the economy in general was slowing, Federec was "concerned by the sudden drop in demand for recycled plastics in all consumer sectors and for all polymers"....
