Fire and explosion prompt evacuation at AEB's EfW plant

An explosion occurred shortly before 1 PM last Wednesday at AEB's waste incineration plant in Amsterdam, causing a temporary shutdown of part of the facility. According to a company statement, the loud bang, which left four employees complaining of hearing difficulties, was caused by ruptured pipes in the plant's gaseous fire suppression system. Immediately before the pipes burst, smoke had been detected in a technical area of the plant.

As a precaution, the affected area of the plant (HRC line 35) was immediately shut down, and staff members were temporarily evacuated, said AEB (Afval Energie Bedrijf)....
