Further sales and earnings growth for Stena Metall in first financial half

Second "green bond" / New plastics recycling capacities

Stena Metall’s recycling and waste management activities have continued their positive development, as has the group as a whole. In its interim report released in late April, the Swedish company reported strong growth in turnover and results in its first financial half. “All [group] companies delivered strong results and we have succeeded in creating new business opportunities and strengthened the margins,” commented CEO Anders Jansson.

The group’s net sales for the first half of the current financial year which began on 1 September were SEK19.3bn, equivalent to around €1.9bn. This is an increase of around half compared to the net turnover of SEK12.7bn generated in the first half of the previous financial year. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) improved by about 60 per cent compared to the previous year’s figure from SEK1.2bn to SEK 1.9bn. Profit before tax almost doubled, from SEK 693m to around SEK1.4bn.

The group's subsidiary Stena Recycling announced at the start of this week that it has taken over the plastics recycler Swerec based in Lanna, Sweden, from the German company DAW Deutsche Abfallwirtschafts GmbH. The acquisition was “part of its plastics strategy and its ambition to be a leading player in plastic recycling in Sweden”. Swerec’s extensive expertise in sorting and processing plastics from households and businesses “fits well with our efforts to recycle more plastic qualities”, commented Fredrik Pettersson, the CEO of Stena Recycling Sweden....
