After a spirited start into the year 2011, the German non-ferrous metals industry witnessed consolidation on a high level in the second quarter, German metals industry association WVM (Wirtschaftsvereinigung Metalle) announced in its latest quarterly report. The production volumes in the non-ferrous metals industry increased slightly again between the first and second quarter of the year, but the risks for the second half of 2011 have increased significantly, according to the organisation. However, if the present turbulences on the capital markets do not have a significant adverse impact on the economic trend, the metals producing and processing companies may still touch last year's production levels in key product areas in 2011 or even surpass them in individual segments, WVM comments.
