In its Roadmap for Net Zero Concrete adopted a few years ago, the Global Cement and Concrete Association undertook to fully decarbonise cement and concrete production by 2050. This objective to be achieved through a variety of measures, including the increased use of alternative fuels and raw materials. EUWID is once again looking at the progress towards these recently achieved in this area by the world's largest building materials manufacturers. Our analysis of the latest annual and sustainability reports shows that almost all the industry's major players have been able to achieve further increases in their thermal substitution rates (TSR), i.e. the substitution of fossil fuels with alternative waste-based fuels. Targets for the coming years have also been increased again, with a number of manufacturers aiming to cover around half their energy demand through co-incineration by 2030....
