Hungary became the latest EU country to launch a deposit return system (DRS) for beverage containers when its new scheme went live on New Year's Day. The central system administrator is MOHU (MOL Hulladékgazdálkodási Zrt.), a subsidiary of the oil and gas group MOL. Europe's 15th DRS covers ready-to-drink or concentrated beverages (except milk and milk-based drinks) in single-use aluminium cans and glass or plastic bottles ranging from 0.1 litres to 3 litres in size. The deposit has been set at HUF50, equivalent to about €0.13.
