Industry associations reject proposed EU budget contribution based on uncollected WEEE

European electrical and electronic equipment industry associations have sharply criticised a proposal by the European Commission to introduce a member state contribution to the EU budget to be calculated based on uncollected waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), similar to the "plastic tax".

In a joint letter to EU Budget Commissioner Piotr Serafin, Environment Commissioner Jessika Roswall and Søren Jacobsen, a representative of the Danish Council Presidency, organisations including Applia, Digital Europe, EucoLight, Lighting Europe, Orgalim and the WEEE Forum voiced "profound concern" regarding the introduction of the proposed "unitary own resource" of €2 per kilogramme of uncollected WEEE.
