Industry groups oppose plans for state-run packaging PRO in Slovakia

More than 40 European trade associations and companies representing extended producer responsibility (EPR) systems and actors across the packaging value chain have urged Slovak lawmakers to reject a proposed amendment to the country's Environmental Fund Act that would allow Slovakia’s Environmental Fund to act as a producer responsibility organisation (PRO) under the national EPR scheme for packaging.

In a joint statement, signatories, including European Organisation for Packaging and the Environment (Europen) and the Extended Producer Responsibility Alliance (Expra), said the proposal would undermine the independence and effectiveness of Slovakia’s EPR system and could jeopardise national and EU recycling targets....
