Copper producer and recycler Aurubis AG has a new corporate head. In its meeting on 2 October, the Aurubis AG supervisory board unanimously appointed ArcelorMittal Manager Jürgen Schachler to be the group's new executive board chairman. Mr Schachler is scheduled to begin his new position on 1 April 2016.
The 61-year-old economist succeeds Dr Bernd Drouven, who took over as provisional chairman of Aurubis a year ago after Peter Willbrandt stepped down for personal reasons. Dr Drouven will switch back to the supervisory board on 1 November. In the interim period before Mr Schachler assumes his new responsibilities, the group will be led by Executive Board Members Dr Stefan Boel (Production and Products) and Erwin Faust (CFO and Corporate Functions).
Mr Schachler began his career in the chemical industry in the 1980s, including a position at Solvay & Cie, before moving to the steel company ArcelorMittal in 1993.
