The British waste company Viridor has selected the Swiss energy from waste (EfW) technology specialist Kanadevia Inova to be the principal contractor for its planned Thameside Energy Recovery Facility at Tilbury Docks in East London. In an announcement issued last week, the former Hitachi Zosen Inova said that it would be responsible for the design, construction and commissioning of the plant. Construction was set to get underway in late November and the plant is expected to begin operation in 2028, according to Kanadevia Inova.

Once completed, the waste to energy (wte) plant is to process up to 350,000 tonnes of waste per year in its single incineration line. The facility will have a design electrical output of 40MW. As construction progresses, Viridor would consider the plant’s combined heat and power options together with future carbon capture and storage (CCS) opportunities, Kanadevia Inova explained.

Viridor's project lead Leon Brackstone highlighted the established working relationship between the companies. "On previous projects, the teams from Kanadevia Inova have always impressed us not only by delivering on time and within budget but also with their unbeatable safety record. They were our first choice for this project and we look forward to working with them," he said.

This is Kanadevia Inova's 20th wte project in the UK. The Swiss company began construction of another British EfW plant for Viridor's competitor Encyclis earlier last month.
