Kanadevia Inova's 2025 sales growth marred by turbine troubles

Kanadevia Inova experienced an earnings set-back last year due to technical problems in its waste-to-energy (wte) business which forced its Japanese parent to book additional provisions linked largely to steam turbine systems. In financial results for the year ending 31 March 2026 released this month, parent company Kanadevia said one-off costs wiped out more than half of its Swiss plant engineering subsidiary’s operating earnings even as its order intake and revenues continued to rise.

At the mid-point of the most recently completed financial year, the Kanadevia group was still forecasting full-year operating earnings of JPY10.6bn (approximately €57.4m, JPY1000 = €5.42) for its Swiss "waste-to-X" subsidiary. However, it revised the figure down to JPY6.1bn in its third quarter results, citing "extra costs for turbine / other technical issues" and a "project-mix shift". Kanadevia Inova (KVI) closed out the year with operating income of JPY4.4bn, down sharply from the prior-year's figure of JPY12.3bn....
