Launch for Denmark's first CO2 storage project

Permission has been granted in Denmark for a CO2 storage pilot project. The greenlight for the injection of CO2 into the former Nini West oil field beneath the North Sea is the first time the Danish Energy Authority (Energistyrelsen) has issued a permit for CO2 storage, the authority said earlier this month. Energistyrelsen described the approval as an important milestone for the country. The "Greensand" storage project is being realised by Ineos and Wintershall Dea.

Denmark's waste to energy (wte) plant operators are looking to carbon capture and storage or utilisation (CCS or CCU) as the way forward for their industry. According to the waste management industry association Dansk Affaldsforening, the wte sector would be able to capture 2.0 million tonnes of CO2 or a tenth of Denmark's climate target in 2030....
