Austria’s leading packaging waste collection and recovery system ARA Altstoff Recycling Austria AG recorded further slight growth in collection volumes in the first half of 2012. Austrian households source-separated 386,000 tonnes of paper, metal, plastics and composite packaging waste in the period, according to the organisation. This is an increase of 0.1 per cent on the 377,000 tonnes collected in the first six month of last year.
The amount of plastic and composite packaging increased 2.7 per cent to 71,900 tonnes in the first half. By contrast, metal packaging recorded a 1.4 per cent decline to 15,000 tonnes, and the collection volume of paper and board packaging was down 0.5 per cent at 293,600 tonnes.
