Jáchym Hořejš, previously operations manager at Weeelabex, has been appointed the standardisation and certification organisation’s new managing director. His predecessor, Petr Novotný, left Weeelabex on 1 February after more than ten years in the role.
During his tenure, Mr Novotný developed the organisation into a robust company, Weeelabex said. The number of certifications had increased, and the organisation expects the upwards trend to continue as more countries require operators which treat waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), prepare it for reuse or provide collection and logistics services to undergo certification.
Weeelabex's main objective is to ensure that certification of e-waste treatment in accordance with the EN 50625 and EN 50614 Cenelec standards becomes mandatory across Europe. The organisation's president, Jan Vlak of the Dutch Stichting OPEN, said: "We are confident that Jáchym will lead the organisation into a new phase and position it to enable the implementation of the ambitions outlined in the coming WEEE Regulation."
The European Commission is planning to present proposals for amending EU legislation on e-waste this coming autumn as part of the Circular Economy Act (CEA).
