Northern Ireland's Department for Infrastructure (DfI) will once again take up a planning application for a municipal waste to energy (wte) project on the outskirts of Belfast. The High Court of Northern Ireland quashed the Department's 2022 decision refusing permission for the Arc21 residual waste treatment facility in a hearing, the BBC reported last week. The Court order setting aside the planning decision was made at the request of the DfI itself. In making the request at the judicial review hearing, counsel for the Department acknowledged that last year's refusal "was not accompanied by sufficient rational reasons", according to the British broadcaster.
