Twelve companies and organisations from the plastics, packaging and recycling sectors are calling for binding minimum shares of recycled material sourced from within Europe in a joint appeal to the European Commission and the current EU Council president, Denmark. The signatories argue that mandatory European recycled content targets are "essential to strengthening the secondary raw materials market, integrating European waste into value chains and reducing dependence on non-European resources".
The joint call for action's signatories include the waste management companies Suez and Remondis as well as several plastics producers planning to set up chemical recycling capacities, including Eastman. The company announced plans in 2022 to build a facility in France, but the project has since been put on hold. ...
