Plastics Recyclers Europe: Recyclers need access to more waste plastic

Plastics Recyclers Europe sees the industry's efforts to reach the new recycling targets hindered by a lack of available waste plastic feedstock. On Tuesday, PRE's president Ton Emans said robust sorting and collection infrastructure was "a must to increase stable feedstocks for European recyclers’’.

He stressed that recyclers had made massive investments in capacities in Europe. "In 2020 the plastic recycling industry invested €1.5bn which translates into 1.1 million tonnes of additional installed capacity when compared to the previous year and a total of €4.9bn of investments since 2017," he said. But now low volumes of sorted plastic waste were negatively impacting the operations of plastics recyclers across Europe....
