Europe’s plastic recyclers are facing a "severe and deepening recession" that is forcing an increasing number of companies out of the market. This trend could accelerate deindustrialisation in Europe and undermine the EU’s environmental and circular economy objectives, the organisation Plastics Recyclers Europe (PRE) warned.
To avert the collapse of the European plastics recycling industry, PRE is calling for immediate action across six strategic areas. The organisation presented its recommendations to EU Environment Commissioner Jessika Roswall and her cabinet in mid-May and published them in a position paper in the second half of the month. The associations EuRIC and FEAD attended similar meetings.
