Prezero Portugal has completed the acquisition of the company Tratris. With the transaction, the waste management subsidiary of Germany's Schwarz group is expanding its presence in central Portugal and strengthening its position in the industrial waste segment. The company did not disclose the financial terms of the transaction.
Tratris – short for "Tratamento de Resíduos Industriais" – is based in Tondela in Portugal's Viseu district and specialises in the collection, transport, treatment, recovery and sale of recovered recyclable materials. The company recycles around 11,000 tonnes of industrial waste per year.
According to publicly available information, Tratris is classified as a small enterprise, with between 26 and 50 employees. In 2023, it generated revenue of around €2.9m and reported net profit of approximately €315,000. Prezero said all Tratris staff members would remain with the business and be fully integrated into its operations.
Prezero already operates facilities in Tondela. Because the sites are located close to one another in the same industrial estate, the company sees opportunities to consolidate operations and transport routes. According to the company, the acquisition will increase its operational capacity in the region and expand its service offering for industrial customers.
Headquartered in Neckarsulm, Germany, Prezero is part of the Schwarz Group, which also owns the Lidl and Kaufland discount grocery chains. The waste management company operates in ten European countries and employs around 30,000 people across 460 sites. Its activities span collection and sorting, recycling, energy recovery and the supply of secondary raw materials.
