PRO Circularity Alliance, a European umbrella group representing producer responsibility organisations (PROs), is calling for the creation of a central EU register for extended producer responsibility (EPR) systems. According to the group, a European EPR register could reduce administrative costs, strengthen the single market and improve data quality. The association has set out its proposal in a position paper released as the European Commission prepares its proposal for a "Circular Economy Act" (CEA), expected later this year.
The paper notes that EU policymakers are currently focusing on competitiveness, regulatory simplification and strengthening the single market. According to the alliance, the patchwork of national EPR registers runs counter to these objectives....
