The UK's Reconomy Group and its subsidiary Reverse Logistics GmbH (RLG) have acquired Rene AG, a German company providing compliance services for electrical and electronic goods, packaging and batteries. RLG announced that the transaction was closed retroactively to 1 January 2022. The consideration was not disclosed.

Rene AG has operations in more than 60 countries around the globe and will primarily be aligned with RLG within the Reconomy group, the firm added. Both companies operate take-back schemes for waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and end-of-life batteries and have networks of approved recyclers, so this move expanded their overall geographical reach and capability. Rene also operates its own take-back scheme for e-waste in Denmark.

Paul Cox, Reconomy Group’s CEO, noted that the acquisition of Rene is part and parcel of the company’s strategic roadmap to make Reconomy Group the leading global player for environmental compliance and sustainable solutions for the return of products and materials.

RLG’s CEO Patrick Wiedemann described the transaction as the next step in positioning Reconomy Group more broadly and expanding its global footprint. Along with the e-scrap scheme in Denmark, Rene’s international recycling network was particularly interesting for the group.

Rene AG is headquartered in Eppishausen in the south of Germany, and has offices in the UK and in Italy.
