Recovered paper volume in Europe slightly down in 2024

In Europe, the quantity of separately collected recovered paper declined only marginally last year, according to figures from the Confederation of European Paper Industries (Cepi). The industry association's key statistics published in July put the amount of recovered paper in the 27 EU member states as well as the United Kingdom, Norway and Switzerland at 53.4m tonnes. This is a decrease of just over 200,000 tonnes compared with 2023.

A large part of the decline is attributable to Germany. Here, recovered paper volumes fell by around 180,000 tonnes last year, according to national industry statistics.
