Three European waste management and recycling associations have urged policymakers to take targeted action to improve the circularity of flat glass used in buildings. In their paper, titled "From flat to circular: Rethinking glass in construction," they call for binding recycled content and national collection targets, as well as other measures to boost recycling, including mandatory selective demolition, green public procurement and modified VAT rates.
In their appeal to lawmakers, Recycling Europe (formerly EuRIC), the European Federation of Glass Recyclers (Ferver) and the European Waste Management Association (FEAD) note that the current recycling rate of end-of-life building glass into new flat glass remains "marginal", despite the material’s technical recyclability and well-documented environmental benefits....
