Following a fire that occurred in the shredding area at the Renewcell textile fibre recycling plant in Sundsvall, Sweden, on 22 March, work is underway to assess and repair the damage. The company's initial assessment is that the clean-up and repair work will be completed within approximately two weeks. Some limited production would be possible during this period, Renewcell reported late in the afternoon the day after the incident.

The fire started shortly before 2 PM last Wednesday and was extinguished shortly after the emergency services arrived at the site. All employees were safe and no one was injured, according to Renewcell.

The company said that the fire was contained within the shredding area of the plant and caused damage to one of the three shredder units and one filter unit. Both units are to be repaired.

"The damage was limited thanks to the proper functioning of the fire prevention and suppression equipment on site. An assessment of the need for any additional fire safety measures is ongoing", Renewcell said.
