Schwarz group expands circular economy activities, recycles 2.4 million tonnes of waste

Sustainability report: Group-wide recycling rate of around 69 per cent in 2024

In its 2024 business year, Germany’s Schwarz group systematically pursued its circular economy strategy and made considerable progress in waste prevention, the use of recyclate and mechanical recycling, according to its recently released sustainability report.

The report of the company, which includes the waste management subsidiary Prezero, hard discount retailer Lidl and supermarket chain Kaufland, documents quantitative successes with regard to recycling volumes as well as structural improvements in internal material flows and external services.

Internal waste arisings of Schwarz group amounted to around 3.49 million tonnes during the reporting year. In accordance with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) standards, 2.4 million tonnes of the waste was mechanically recycled, representing a 7 per cent increase compared to the previous reporting period.
