Total to double PP recycling capacity in order to supply automotive industry

Capacity expansion responds to "growing demand
for high-performance recycled materials".
23.10.2019 −

The French group Total has decided to double the production capacity of its subsidiary Synova in response to growing demand for high-performance recycled materials. Starting in 2021, the plastics recycler is to produce 40,000 tonnes per year of recycled polypropylene which “meets the demanding quality standards of automotive OEMs and carmakers”, Total announced.

According to Valérie Goff, head of the polymer division of Total Refining & Chemicals, this investment "marks a new milestone in our circular economy activities and contributes to our target of producing 30 per cent recycled polymers by 2030.” Total acquired Synova in February 2019 for an undisclosed sum with the stated intention of adding to its recycling activities.
