Specialist glass manufacturer Schott has achieved a breakthrough in a pilot project conducted with partners in the waste management and household appliance sectors, successfully returning end-of-life ceramic hobs to the production cycle for the first time. In a multi-week, large-scale trial, externally collected glass cullet was processed and remelted without any loss of quality.
According to the company, the results demonstrate that a circular material loop for glass-ceramic cooktops is technically feasible. "We have truly broken new ground," commented Schott project manager Jörn Besinger, adding: "The tests were an important step in demonstrating feasibility. Now we know it works."...
