French environmental services company Suez has secured a 24-year contract to modernise and operate the waste-to-energy (wte) plant in Argenteuil, north-west of Paris. Valued at €830m before taxes, the deal was awarded by the inter-municipal waste management cooperation Azur following a competitive public tender, and covers both extensive upgrades and long-term operation of the facility. Suez had been selected as the winning bidder "after more than two years of preparatory work and over a year of procurement procedures", said Azur president Gilbert Ah-Yu.
The energy-from waste (EfW) plant has an annual treatment capacity of 206,000 tonnes per year and processes household waste from four municipalities – Argenteuil, Bezons, Cormeilles-en-Parisis and La Frette-sur-Seine as well as handling waste from surrounding communities in the Val-d’Oise département, serving some 600,000 residents altogether.
